What changes would you like to see?

I want to know what sort of changes within the clubs actions folks would like to see. We have started wheeling together quarterly, which I love!! We have done two charity events this year, I would like to see us do more!! We need some positive publicity towards us and what we do, to help not only the charities but also our club as a whole. How can we accomplish this without tax repercussions? Any way to promote ourselves to grow our member base (and keep members)?? Seems we get a few members a month but we lose them just as fast. How can we stop this? I want to see people come to us and be like DANG I wanna be a part of that!!! Come on folks help me help you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lol, just kidding. I am mostly disappointed that I haven't been able to be more involved. I can't remember the specific name of it, but in the Offroad Adventures mag, they do a deal where you can buy lights for the troops. That is a good thing to do, is pretty cheap and would get the DFW club mentioned in the mag. Maybe we could partner with 4wp or a different company and have an event. Some sort of local mud bog/rock crawl fest. Just something in the metroplex that would bring out more of the DD crew. IMO, it is ultimately on us. I talk to people I run into, but I really need a bunch of cards so that I can stick them on rigs. The atmosphere here is awesome and everyone is very friendly. That is a great selling point, but rentention is tough. Offroading is expensive and for alot of people just a fad. They go offroading once and love it, but are they going to go buy a jeep or yota? I don't think we drive people away, I think 80% of 4x4'ers move on to other things after a while.

I wish I had an easy solution for that. I do have another question though. There is another 4WD club in DFW. It is backed by a big shop (Baer Trax). Is there some sort of bad blood between the groups? What I am getting at is... 4WP, Baer Trax, PSC Motorsports and there has to be some guys running around from when Sunray closed. Those are some fairly heavy hitters in the offroad world. I think if we could push hard and get them on board, we could get a badass event going. I live 5 min from PSC and I would go chat them up. Assuming everything is kosher with the groups, why not team up and get something off the ground? I could reach out to the BRC and see if they have any suggestions/connections.

I'm am not aware of any bad blood per se, just a different group of guys/gals. I see absolutely no problem with trying to "join forces" to do some good for the community. That being said I do not know how they feel about that. Russ Baer was great to deal with and very knowledgable, I haven't been there in years though and wouldn't have a clue who to deal with. PSC is a whole different animal.

Dan, and everyone that reads this. Please remember this site and all of our events are run strictly off of volunteers. If you or someone you know wants to contribute to the growth of this site and or club then by all means take the bull by the horns. As it works right now we run off the ideas of a few, if we ran with the ideas of many and utalized the help of everyone then this club would reap tremendous benefits. I am not going to lie, everything done here is thankless and noticed by few, but that is what it takes. Ideas are always welcome big or small, good or bad!

Eisenfaust I wish I had an easy solution for that. I do have another question though. There is another 4WD club in DFW. It is backed by a big shop (Baer Trax). Is there some sort of bad blood between the groups? You are probably talking about FWD-FWD. They hold their meetings at Baertrax. I believe they are a pretty small group. Lone Star Jeep Club is also pretty involved with Baertrax. I think the difference is location. Despite everything we do, we attract people from all over the metroplex but seem to retain a much higher percentage from Tarrant County. LSJC, FWD-FWD and some others like TexasJK have much higher active membership in Dallas and Collin so places like Baertrax see the business from those clubs. Puddin, Russ Baer and his wife sold the business a year or two ago. Josh is now the point person. He has been on our forum and posted once but he has not logged in since August so not sure what happened. http://www.dfw-tx4wd.org/forums/fb.ashx?m=66315 I think Mugsy has used them for a bunch of work in the past so he might be able to give you more insight.

Are we really in need of sponsers though, I would like to see more meetings on this end of the metro, I wouldn't be opposed to maybe a seperate meeting for this end. I know its much to ask the rest of the BOD to attend but I could convey any important matters. Maybe we could get a both at truckfest (4wheelparts) and do a membership drive

I am not going to lie, everything done here is thankless and noticed by few, but that is what it takes. Ideas are always welcome big or small, good or bad! Right on. I went ahead and joined the BRC. It will take a while for me to start getting my access to everything, but I will try to see what kind of contacts they have in the metroplex. I would also like to host a future meet. I have to clear up a few things, but I think it would be good to go. It would be cookout/poolside/bonfire thing. Unfortunately, we prob cant do too much wheeling, but atleast offroad up to the campsite. I just moved to a new schedule and will have weekends off, so I am hoping to pick up some steam around here. Things will move slowly, I work full time and go to school full time, but hopefully I can get in with the BRC and start metriculating around the metroplex. Dave, I will look into the card deal. It is a really convenient way to get in touch with ppl when you just see their rigs.

Maybe club meetings with a project, like fix someone's junk at a local spot that could support 20-30 people. I could image that - alcohol, torches, welders, sawzalls and peer pressure. What could possibly go wrong? Chris I pushed for this as well so we are having the club and BOD meetings in Dallas county this month to support our East Side members. Also think tech sessions at local shops would be awesome but Squeaky brought up a good point, many shops don't see the payback in retail sales. Maybe there are some ideas out there that would resolve this.......

I might have an idea , pick someone whether its a soldier from the area or a "good" high school kid, and lets build a rig to give them . members could nominate people, maybe vote on who would recieve . either thru a donation or we could buy something cheap and make it great . im sure we could get parts donated . in a sence we could create a new member . i would be willing to help round up donations and help with wrenching and such ... . . . ... another idea is an ad in the newspaper . . off road blah blah blah , come join blah blah....... another is if we could somehow get some soccer moms to bring out their jeeps for a how to kinda thing , basic 4x4 instructions followed by some light wheeling , your jeep is capable of this ... dont go over there ! if we could convert mall crawlers to wheelers , it would benefit us, local parks and shops. id bet we could get a good deal on park admission to bring out people that would otherwise not be there at all ... you know with the hopes of converting them to repeat customers to said park or parks , and new members ... i wheeled my jeep once stock , thats all it took . Im sure Im not the only one . i will continue to ponder on retention of members .
