Trails nearest Addison and in DFW vicinity

Hello all. I'm new as of today to this Forum and chapter. I live in Addison and looking for legal trail fun with my 4x4 unlimited Jeep for myself and 11-year-old son. I am new to the entire 4x4 world, so looking for advice on nearby trails, as well as understanding dangers of suggested trails, if applicable. I bought the jeep mainly for fishing purposes. We use kayaks to fish from, so needed to be able to get back into some areas nearer the water. Anyway, I look forward to responses and hearing where we might go for some riding fun this weekend. Thank you in advance to all of you! So glad I found this resource.

Welcome. Try to make it on the 28th and bring your son. I will have my 15 year old son with me, ...., and he will have plenty of peanut butter sandwiches to share if your son gets hungry (its an inside joke among some of us).

Welcome! Like everyone else said, the OHV park owned and operated by the City of Bidgeport, is probably the closest legal place to fourwheel. Unlike the Western states, Texas simply does not have very many places to do much outdoor, land-based recreation since the vast majority of the state is privately owned. Unfortunately, we're relegated to a small number of relatively small OHV parks smattered throughout the state, most of which are privately-owned, fee-generating parks hours and hours away. For some in the metroplex, Bridgeport is probably the closest (about 1 hr 40 minutes away for me), with the next closest probably being BMRA near the small town of Gilmer 2 to 2.5 hours away. Anyway, you've found a friendly, family-supportive club here at DFW-TX4WD.
