Rear 4 Link Set-up

I am trying to figure out which would be the cheapest and most for my money. Remember I do have a sammy body and frame. Modifying is not a problem. Here are the 4 link kits out there I have found. The first pic...Gen Right is $1200.00 with no coils or shocks The second is the Trail Gear installed The third is Poly Performance weld on 4 link....no springs or shocks $1100.00 The fourth is Rocky Road outfitters Samurai rear link kit with springs and shocks The fifth is Rocky Road outfitters samurai front and rear total kit...I dont need it. Just a pic to see the rear parts. The 6th is Trail Gears Trail Link. This one comes with shock mounts but no springs or shocks $950.00 The 7th is Trail Gear with the fox 2.0 is $1200.00

I was looking at some 3link kits for my truck, I just wish it was in the 600-700 price range. It's hard to drop over 1K for a kit. But at least you know someone took the time to get the geometry right (or at least close).

I would have to agree with Mark. Go with #7. The airshocks alone are worth $400.00 and it looks to be a decent design with some adjustability. Let's not leave out the fact that it's designed for the sammy.

The #7 does seem like a good plan. The design is ment for a Toyota truck actually. I will have to shorten the width on the cross member. Like I said there will be a bit of modification going on. #4 and #5 are the rocky road outfitters design. This is for the samurai. The others are universal, Toyota or Jeep.

Here is another...... KP Components @ $325.00 I dont like the axle brackets, but they can be cut to work. There is no say in tube size.

I went to poly performance to see about building the link set-up myself. Look how much the 8 joints would be for a triangulated set-up. Remember....this is only the joints!!!! Well, you did pick the most expensive ends on the website. Why not use some static ends on one end of the tube, and then the adjustable ones on the other. You will have to adjust them before install, but its cheaper. Or you could use 2 static ends per tube and just work harder on the math

I am still leaning toward the Rocky-Road set-up. Mianly because of fit for the samurai frame and it comes complete. Ready to weld on and hit the trail for $950.00 bucks. The only thing is the "Y" upper link. How does that perform compared to the triangulated 4 link?

The rocky road set-up comes with 1.5" dom 1/4 wall and Currie joints. Not bad.

Rocky Road also specializes in Sami stuff, so it should be fairly easy, but ive heard some mixed stories about their shipping practices. And a 4 Link would be stronger. More redundancy.

ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE?????? triangulated or Y upper design? The Y upper is a bit more giving to the not so bright engineering. There is less to bind up if you dont do it right...correct?

im gonna go with a isuzu trooper rear axle I got my hands on because its already set up for a three link from the factory and has disc brakes and its a third member style. I will build my own links out of dom and heavy duty heims. now I just need a suzuki sidekick to put it in and my old 44 will go up front temporarily.

The upper Y is basically only there to help keep the axle centered and to prevent axle wrap. It is effectively the same as the two seperate arms. The big difference is that it's a single joint so you need to be sure to have high misalignment spacers and a uber strong mount. This is all assuming that the lowers are triangulated, if not that changes a lot of the force loads and how they are gonna effect the vehicle. If you want to build your own I do have the 4-link calculator I can try to email ya.

Please do. I have a stick of 1" x 1/4 wall DOM sitting on the shelf. I know it is a bit small, but it is free. I just need to find johny joints to fit. Maybe I can buy a tap and get the 1.25" johny joints. Tap the dom and that way I dont have to buy a tube adapter. E-mail: wkasper@flagshipinc.com
