Ideas for a fuse box or panel
Monday, January 16, 2012 3:09 PM
( permalink)
Currently I have a panel that a friend made for me that holds 4 fuses and 4 relays for my lights. The panel is still working fine but I need room for growth so im looking for ideas or experience that anyone has with this. The idea is to keep all my fuses and relays away from my battery and just have one power wire running to the battery from a box or panel that houses everything. Painless has one HERE but I its a little overkill and I don't care to spend 500 bucks on something so im looking for alternatives. Any experience or ideas would be much appreciated. This is also my plan for fixing a certain someone's (unnamed woman) wiring nightmare that scares me when I look at it.

I have a painless switch panel on my old celica, you can buy them with fuses as well. They are about 280. Check out jegs.com and search painless or switch panel.

I can build you one The switch panel that have in my overhead is about 40 bucks wherea I get them and Has one main power wire like six or seven trigger wires. It does not have fuses or relays but I built police cars before I climbed towers so I'm pretty good when it comes to wireing up. In my jeep I got a fuse panel from a Ford tarus and removed part of the harness

Id rather have fuses but thanks. If I decide to build another one I may look into assistance. Ryan I looked around the site but that big one is the only one I found. I'll look some more.

I would do like Chris said and grab one out of a donor vehicle at a junkyard then wire it how you like it dodge fuse boxes are pretty compact and well organized.

Currently 4 or 5 but down the road....you never know. Just depends on the amount of gadgets I want to put on the jeep. I've looked at 12vguy before and he has awsome stuff. Also thought about going with one of his fuse boxes and mounting the relays somewhere else.

I always liked the Wired-HDH panels, these programmable panels are cool. The only downfall is you would still need fuses and relays for anything over 2.5amps. http://www.wiredhdh.com/ 4WP sells them for 399

Yeah Jason at 4wheelparts parts showed me the HDH panel a while back. That thing is cool but too small for me and if a button stops working its not as easy as going to auto zone and getting a new switch. Also cost a lot. id highly recommend it for someone who wants a bunch of custom switches placed out of the way. The switches aren't what I'm after here. Im looking for a weather resistant way to consolidate fuses and switches to one out of the way spot.

Painless also has offroad switch panels that mount to the roll bar. Here's the 6 Switch Panel with Circuit breakers - $311 http://www.jegs.com/i/Pai...cts/764/50337/10002/-1 All the offroad panels have a start button, maybe wire that to a horn or something else.
