RE: Ford - Jeep Hybrid Coming Soon!

I thought the powerstrokes have a wastegate. At least from 99 up. Is it a BOV instead? I know the old body style P-strokes had neigher but I've got something on mine, it's got an adjustable arm and you can hear it go pSSSSSH when it shifts gears when I'm getting on it. I'm just curious cause I always assumed it was a wastegate. Is it just the agriculture diesels that don't have wastegates?

The powerstrokes do have a wastegate to limit to boost, this is why you can buy a tuner to delay the wastegate action and run higher boost. I am not sure if the newer models have a BOV, I don't think my 2000 F250 has one, but I will check. Remember a wastegate releaves exhaust pressure and a BOV releases intake pressure. I am not sure about the agri desiels. On a gas engine it is a must to run both a wastegate and a BOV.

Thanks guys....But I am wondering what is the limit pressure for the turbo? Say I leave the waste gate arm off and spool her up....How far will she go? John Wayne......Ya it is baisically the SVO / Thunderbird Turbo motor. Bore it, Stroke it, Blow it !!!!!!!!

I am not sure about that. The concern on gas engines is if the boost gets high enough that your fuel system cannot supply adequate fuel then it will start to detonate. You could also install a good boost gauge and just let off the throttle if boost gets a bit too high. My experience with rice burners we would use a bleed off valve (home depot special) or a ball & spring type pressure regulator to control the wastegate. Either of these methods do a decent job for under $50.

I went to see the builder. Now I know what the problem is. The stroker rods are Chevy. These rods have a smaller cranck journal. So he had to re-turn the crank to match. This was suppose to be done allready by the shop who ballanced and blueprinted the motor! i will have her soon.

Sounds like he may be doing easy quick cash jobs. I would ask him to have it done by a certain date. If he cant them go elsewhere.
