DFW-TX4WD at BMRA
Sunday, June 13, 2010 11:21 AM
( permalink)
The DFW Chapter of TX4WD is moving! We have just been given sponsorship of a new campsite at Barnwell Mountain Recreational Area in Gilmer TX. This new site is larger than our old site and has a pavilion and other amenities. BMRA and TMTC are looking forward to working with us to make this a showcase camp site. In the coming weeks, members of our board will meet with the president of TMTC and members of the BMRA board to discuss ideas as to how to take the site to the next level. Our new camp site is shown on the map below. It is on one of the main access roads and located within the semi-circle created by Binder Blvd right in the middle of the park. This is a great opportunity for our club and we need to show our appreciation with continued and increased support for BMRA. It is a great park to wheel, a great place to camp and it is the home of MegaRun! http://www.barnwellmountainra.com

Ok, since it is going to come up here is the scoop. Yes, for those of you familiar with the park, that is the Lone Star Jeep camp (and JNT camp before that). LSJC and BMRA/TMTC have been having issues for a year or so now. In January, LSJC told BMRA they were no longer going to have anything to do with the park and they wanted all of their signage removed. BMRA continued to try and negotiate with Lone Star with no success. In May, the minutes from the BMRA operations committee March and April meetings were published. It was noted by our board that the relationship between BMRA and LSJC were not getting better and looked like it was going to end with a parting of the ways. We contacted the BMRA board and told them that we hoped the relationship could be salvaged, but if they could not that we would be interested in taking sponsorship of the camp. BMRA/TMTC told us they were still working with LS but would keep our offer in mind. Just last week, the BMRA board voted unanimously to give up negotiations with Lone Star, remove all of their sponsorships and break all ties with them. They also voted to give the camp site to us once Lone Star removes some of their club belongings (which is happening today). BMRA has also indicated that there are other clubs interested in sponsoring camp sites, so if another club wishes to take over the Linda Gail camp we will give up sponsorship on that site. If you want to know more of the details of the dispute between BMRA and LSJC, do some digging on the TMTC forum and on the LSJC forum and please leave it there. We really don’t need the discussions and debates on here about it, it is a matter between those two parties.

That's good and bad news. Bad because LSJC is a huge club and their support of BMRA was quite needed. Good because they had a good campsite and now it's ours!

UPDATE: The move mentioned above has been put on hold. LSJC has met with the President of TMTC and will be meeting with the BMRA Board on July 13th for one more attempt to reconcile the issues. At that meeting, the BMRA Board will make one more vote on the relationship with LS and the future of the camp site. There is a chance that we will not be given sponsorship of the Binder Blvd camp, and if that happens we will definitely retain sponsorship of the Linda Gail site just as before. While the move would be an exciting one for our club, we should not have any ill feelings if it does not happen. In the big picture, if we do not get the camp it means LSJC and BMRA have settled their differences and LSJC will resume having functions at BMRA. Their support of BMRA is beneficial to everyone who uses the park. The more clubs that support the more resources there will be to make the park better for everyone. For now we will just sit back and wait. Once a final final decision has been reached we will post another update.

Yes, that is true. This week Lone Star Jeep met with Barnwell Mountian as well as TMTC. Unfortunately they still could not come to an agreement. On Friday I had several conversations with Lone Star. They have decided that they are done trying to negotiate and are going to cut their losses and walk away. They hold no hard feelings towards our club or our members and have decided to leave all of the improvements such as the vise, grill and fire pits in place for the benefit of the four wheel community. We certainly appreciate all the work that has gone into that camp and the efforts of the LSJC members who made it what it is. As I assured George Rice, Lone Star's Membership Director, we have no issues with, and would encourage, Lone Star members making use of the camp if they are out at Barnwell.

Guys, It is true that the campsite officially belongs to you guys. Regrettably the issues between LSJC and BMRA/TMTC could not be worked out. I don't mind discussing the issues that brought about this decision, but I would rather do it in a different maner than the open forum. It is time for the park to move on and concentrate on other clubs that are willing to help make the park a better place.

The issues between LS and BMRA/TMTC can be found by doing some searching on the LS forum and the TMTC forum and that is where it needs to stay. This is not the place to re-hash, discuss or debate what has gone on between them.
