BMRA Trail Re-Evaluation/Cleanup
Thursday, August 05, 2010 12:22 PM
( permalink)
I am trying to get a few clubs together to do a trail cleanup/evaluation meeting. I would need about 10-15 people per club to make it a good event. Besides cleanup, I want to evaluate all the trails and determine whether we need to repair them and if so, I will be looking for suggestions. I also want to look at the possibility of re-rating some of the tougher trails. I am thinking aometime in early September. Would you guys be interested in joining us? Charlie

Charlie I'm interested pending what weekend is picked. I hope we can get a good showing from DFW members. In addition to trail evaluations and mapping, we need DFW members to do maintainance on our sponsor trails and our new campsite. Charlie, in order to help people with the decision making can you comment on the details. Is this an official BMRA work weekend including the usual "perks" (if so, please elaborate on the perks)? All, even if this is not an official work weekend we do need to support this event. Any time spent maintaining trails, camp sites, mapping, evaluation, etc should be logged at the office and goes towards state funding reimbursements. In other words, BMRA gets money from the state to put into the park for every hour of volunteer work people like you and I put in. This is as simple of picking up trash on the trails, trimming branches on the trails, keeping campsites clear of ground cover, etc. Not much effort required while you are wheeling and every little bit helps the park both physically and financially.

I would like to try and help, I probably will not have the Heep fixed, but could ride along and help with fuel costs. When you get the weekend picked out I will nail down a yes or no!

I would like to help out also. I am in the same boat as puddin. Being that I trailer mine its not the most cost efficient trip for me. But if all else fails I could catch a ride with someone and ride passenger.

Thanks guys. I have not picked a weekend yet. I too am waiting for the cooler weather. As far as the entry goes, I will be discussing this with the BMRA BOD next week. I would think it would fall under a BMRA official work weekend, so entry would not be required if you sign the volunteer log.

Jason, great idea! The more rigs we can get to pitch in the faster the "work" gets done and leaves more time for "play"

no problem! I know that it's a lot of work, and the more people you get the better... I myself won't be able to make it though, I wish I could, but just bad timing... Hope you guys get all the help you need!

It has been way to long since we have had a chance to go to Gilmer. If we are not working Bridgeport that weekend you can count Steve and I in!

Sorry for the delay guys. I have been on the road for too long. We discussed this during the BMRA and TMTC meeting. I would like to plan it on the weekend of September 25th. That is a Saturday. I would like to get a real good turn out. The volunteer hours are needed. We could get all of the trails cleaned and get in some good wheeling too. Who is with me?
